Amelia Grace’s First Birthday
Providence, Utah | Milestone Session at Kylee Ann Studios
One year.
It’s amazing how much life can be lived in such a small span of time. A baby’s first year is full of changes, milestones that quietly stack into a season of wonder and growth.
For Amelia Grace, we marked this milestone with a simple session at Kylee Ann Studios in Providence, Utah. The space was full of light, clean, soft, and peaceful. Just right for slowing down and letting her spirit shine.
She wore a darling lace romper, a little white bow. A white cake waited in front of her, simple and sweet. And sitting just off to the side was her big brother , encouraging her, laughing with her, distracting her. And being the best behind the scenes videographer you could ask for!
He helped her reach for the cake, played peekaboo, waved the rainbow duster to get her to smile, and added so much life to the session. It was playful, wild, and completely them.
The Beauty of Milestone Sessions
I’m always reminded during these moments that photography isn’t just about what we see, it’s about what we feel.
Milestone sessions, especially first birthdays, are more than just a celebration. They’re a way of pausing time, of preserving the in-between moments. The ones that are quiet , fleeting and real.
These sessions aren’t rushed. They unfold gently.
There’s space to laugh, to play, to be still.
And always, there’s room for the little things that matter most—like a brother’s helping hand or a giggle over frosting.
Three Tips For A Relaxed First Birthday Photoshoot
- Outfit & Props– When it comes to outfits and props. I always recommend less rather than more. If your baby is anything like mine. Changing their outfit multiple times in a one hour period is sure to sour her mood. Making it harder to get her to cooperate for photos. When it comes to props, they are so fun to add. But if you add to many it can make for a very busy photo, that takes the focus off of baby.
- Preparing Baby For Session– With babies/toddlers it is so so important to set them up for success. I always recommend scheduling their session when they will be rested. Usually after a their nap or a couple hours before their nap. Then make sure they arrive at the session with a full belly. I have a very hangry little one year old. And photos will not be happening if she is at all hungry!
- Siblings– If you little one has older siblings it can really really help to involve them in the session. It can make baby feel more at ease an natural during their session. Always prep the older sibling, so they know what to do. Let them know you’d love for their help. That cheering on/encouraging baby from the side lines is super helpful.
A Note for Mothers
I Truly didn’t realize just how fast time passes by until I had a baby turn one. It breaks my heart but also brings me so much happiness to watch my little ones grow. To see their personality’s come out and become little individuals. Its been so important to me to capture those milestone moments to look back on.
If your baby’s first year is approaching its close, I’d be honored to help you mark it. Not with grand setups or forced smiles, but with a session that feels true to you. One that honors this season and the beauty found right where you are.
